Art Commission Kettering Health Dayton - Grandview Hospital
I am fortunate to be asked to create photography art pieces by many individuals and organizations. This spring, one of my collectors asked me to create something for her husband, who was in his final months of medical residency. He was working at Kettering Health Dayton, formally known as Grandview Hospital. Her only comment was, “I trust you to come up with something unique and interesting.” I have created many art pieces around the history of Dayton, my Wright Brothers: Then and Now series, my Kettering, Deeds, and Delco piece in the Kettering-Wilmington Metro Library community room, and my Marie Aull series, to name a few.
I started looking up historic photographs of Grandview Hospital. Finally, I narrowed it down to two that I liked: the original house where the hospital started and the installation of the Grandview sign. I went to the hospital building on a Sunday night at dusk to create my photograph as the background image. I took my photo about an hour after sunset, letting the building lights pop. I also knew there wouldn’t be many cars to deal with on a Sunday. I like the dark, moody sky instead of a “colorful sunset” sky. Many of my art pieces have words that relate to the subject matter. After some thought and meditation, I layered the Hippocratic oath over the sky.
My client purchased multiple framed copies for other people in the graduating class. I hope this image hangs proudly in their offices for many years and reminds them of their time in medical school.
