Sunrise at the Low Dam (RiverScape, Downtown Dayton) captures a moment when the city is just waking up—and the river does most of the talking. I made this image at dawn, using a long exposure to smooth the rushing water into a flowing surface. The result is a peaceful contrast: quiet motion in the foreground and the steady presence of downtown across the river.
This stretch of riverfront is part of Dayton’s signature outdoor identity. RiverScape MetroPark sits along the Great Miami River in the heart of downtown, serving as a central gathering place and gateway to the river corridor. The nearby low-dam area has also been transformed to improve recreation and safety—most notably through modifications incorporated into the RiverScape River Run features.
It’s also a scene rooted in movement: the Dayton riverfront connects to the wider Great Miami Riverway, promoted by the City as a regional destination with extensive trail and river access (including links to Ohio’s only National Water Trail and the nation’s largest paved trail network).
