I paired the image I made that morning with the historical photograph of Flight #23 taken at Huffman Prairie on September 7, 1905. Orville was at the controls, making two complete circles of the field in 2 minutes and 45 seconds. Standing in the fog, I could imagine Wilbur and Orville using the tree as a target to circle while perfecting flight during their trials at Huffman Prairie. “You find yourself facing toward the point from which you started.
