I thank everyone who came to the Talbot Street Summer Art Fair in Indianapolis this past weekend. It was great to meet so many new people. I received many compliments on my photography, and I appreciate that. I brought eight new Indianapolis images to the show. I created two Then and Now images from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the start of the 1911 race, and the 1918 race. The photograph shows the 1918 race, my best-selling image at the show. The Indiana Historical Society has many historic photographs of the racetrack going back many years. I purchased four photographs and ultimately used two photographs for the 1911 Race and 1918 Race photos.
I had the chance to visit the racetrack and take the “Kiss The Bricks” tour of the track. (Although, I didn’t kiss the bricks personally). I did take several photographs of the racetrack. I also created The Pagoda and AJ Foyt’s Brick photographs while on the tour.
While walking around downtown Indianapolis, I created the photos of St Elmo steak house and the Peyton Manning statue in front of Lucas Oil stadium. I waited around until dusk to capture the Canal Walk photograph. I had to wait until the night sky was black to take the Soldiers and Sailors Monument photograph. I brought the stars out and created a dramatic image of the center monument in downtown Indianapolis.
I was glad to see there was much interest in my Wright Brothers: Then and Now series. Many people purchased prints from the series and the book.
I have friends who told me many things about Indianapolis, and they were right. The people in Indy are friendly and very friendly. Maria and I hopefully will see you again next year.
