Because the United States government and American press had ignored what the Wrights were doing and had accomplished, Wilbur made his first public flight demonstrations in France in 1908. In the summer of 2019 I traveled to LeMans and Pau, France to create images for this series. This is one of the images I made at the LeMans race track. I was lucky to be in France the week of the 24 Hours Of LeMans race. On Friday before the weekend race they open the entire track to the public. This is one of the images I made that day on the race track at the first hill right out of pit lane. The historic photograph is Wilbur flying in LeMans in 1908 and the quote is from a speech he gave to the Area Club of France when they gave him their gold medal. “It is not really necessary to look too far into the future.
