The historic photograph was taken at Huffman Prairie in 1905 of Orville flying at a height of about 60 feet. I included in my landscape photograph at Huffman Prairie the locust tree that is in the middle of the field, just like the locust tree that was in the field in 1905. Orville once clipped the tree with a wing and almost crashed. The quote is from an interview in Century Magazine in 1908: “The ground was a perfect blur, but as the plane rose higher the objects below became clearer. At a height of a hundred feet you fell almost no motion at all, except the wind that strikes your face. If you did not take the precaution to fasten your hat before starting you have probably lost your hat by now”
